In a way, yes. You can purchase CBD products that are created from extracting USDA Certified Organic Hemp. But saying that you have “organic CBD” is not completely accurate. Search for yourself, you likely won’t find any actual products that are USDA Certified Organic. A brand name might have the Certified Organic Designation an
d thus the logo is on a product label, but it’s likely that the product itself isn’t USDA Certified Organic – just the raw materials and inputs used to make the product.

USDA Certified Organic farms and products have gone through a stringent certification process performed by third-party organizations working under the guidelines of the United States Department of Agriculture. For one, this seal of approval means the product was made or grown without the use of prohibited chemicals, such as fertilizers or growth hormones. Second, products cannot be exposed to things like:
Radiation
Excessive biocontrol agents
Other inorganic substances.
Numerous factors go into a USDA Certified Organic credential, and the certification process can vary depending on the product being assessed.
So, is it possible to have organic CBD?
You will see the Certified Organic logo on products, but it will likely be next to the brand name. This is because the brand has an organic certification, not the product itself. We know, it’s tricky. To better understand this gray area that we are currently in, remember that hemp and CBD only became legal nationwide with the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill. The change removed the long-standing classification of hemp as an illegal plant, but a lot of complexities remain when it comes to getting a CBD product certified as organic.
So, you will find that CBD products state that the CBD was sourced from organically grown hemp or even USDA Certified Organic hemp, which is accurate. From growth and harvest to transport and processing, our farm is held to especially high standards to retain the Certified Organic designation as an operation. Unfortunately, the bureaucracy involved in getting the hemp derivative CBD certified is challenging. How do you find the highest-quality CBD products?
Eventually, as the government-affiliated agencies work through the nuances of a new booming hemp market, the USDA Organic Certification process will be simplified. For now, though, it is best for those seeking high-quality CBD products to know what sets certain products apart. A few things to look for when shopping for CBD oil or CBD products in general are:
Find out where the CBD in the product is sourced from and whether the farm that grows the hemp follows organic practices
Look for products that have published third-party lab test results; any contaminants that are found in the product will be in these test results
Look at other ingredients in the CBD product you are researching—are the ingredients responsibly sourced, are they organic?
In addition, make sure the CBD oil you buy has a nice pale-yellow or amber color. It should not be a clear liquid or on overtly dark liquid. Products shouldn’t have foul or chemical
odors, and you should examine the product for a clear date of expiration before use.
